Carmen Rodgers has made her mark over the past several years as one of the bright stars of the independent soul movement, both as a singer and as a sought-after songwriter. The Mississippi-born Rodgers began performing as a child, and by her teen years she was regularly singing in choirs around Dallas.
She landed a gig as a backing vocalist for hot soul singer N’dambi while also writing songs for other artists like Geno Young.
Rodgers also became the host of an open mike program at the popular Sankofa Kafe in Dallas and developed her own following as a live performer.
“The Way I Want To Touch You” @Vinyl Atlanta, Ga
It’s a mellow, lyrically strong disc that deservedly became an underground soul hit, staying in the CD Baby top 10 for months and resulting in a European distribution contract with Expansion Records.
It’s Me… Live in Concert @ The Prophet Bar
But her ambitious examination of a love relationship, tentatively titled Intermission, began to take form in 2009 and the first portion of the disc, the EP The Bitter Suite, was released digitally in Spring, 2010.

“People wonder where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing… and this is it. I’ve been growing. I’m no longer concerned with safety when it comes to my music. I’m ready to be me. I decided to make this album as real as real can get.” – Carmen Rodgers
With her combination of jazz, R&B, and soul, Tamara is able to take the listener on an audio voyage that warms the heart, stimulates the mind and reminds us of what it means to live and love.
