BASHIYRA ‘The Voice’ has been very busy!

Winner of ‘The Nina Simone Award 2011‘ in recognition of her contribution to jazz music and most recently in April 2012 she was awarded ‘The Soul Baby Live Award‘ for her extensive soul repertoire, so congratulations to ‘The Voice’ is most definitely in order.

In her own words: ” I am so delighted to be the recipient of both The Nina Simone Award and Soul Baby Live Award for 2011.

The cherry on the cake has to be a personal acknowledgement message from the official legacy estate for Dr Nina Simone who look forward to my new album, that made me smile! And as always I extend a big thank you to all my supporters, you all rock!”

Signed to NuVybe Records (USA) Bashiyra’s second album project entitled ‘INDEPENDENT‘ is eagerly anticipated and will see her write with Richard Rudolph the husband of the late great Minne Ripperton who penned one her most known hits ‘Loving You’, with production credits led by Mr Herb Middleton (Phyllis Hyman, Mary J Blige) with an extension to Peter Moore Productions (LA Reid).

A release is scheduled for the later part of 2012 and the buzz is already taking place! You heard it here, Bashiyra ‘The Voice’ is most definitely one to watch and listen out for!

YOU HAVEN’T SEEN NOTHING YET‘ is Bashiyra’s latest single release, storming up specialist music charts in the UK and currently holding a Top 30 spot at No.16 and two Top 10 spots at No.2 and No.8 respectively.

With the latest single also comes a musical comedy play of the same name starring Bashiyra, amongst others with a live band which had its debut in London in April 2012 and hits The Nottingham Playhouse on June 16th 2012

After its successful London shows in April 2012 they’re back!!!!

Where The Pastor and The Deacon share a secret, the choir is harmonically off key, with multiple personalities all vying for the title of ‘superstar’ and everyone seeming, like they’ve had one energy drink to many. It can only mean two things, all change and don’t blink!

Church is in session and in need of a serious overhaul and as the unorthodox Pastor declares all to take their seats he instructs a now disguised Bashiyra to teach his ensemble to sing, sing, sing!

Bashiyra is also a featured guest artist on the new Cool Million album ‘III‘ released on July 2nd 2012 via Sed Soul Records and industry heads are already praising this as yet another musical triumph for this exceptionally versatile and very talented singer and songwriter.

Having performed backing vocals for music industry heavyweights such as Patti Labelle, Michael Bolton, Diana Ross and Queen, Independent Singer, Songwriter, Producer and Arranger BASHIYRA brings a wealth of captivating artistry to the industry.

In the early 90’s, Bashiyra enjoyed Top 10 success with her release ‘I Will Always Love You’, a Reggae single on the Jet Star Reggae Distribution Chart which led to several personal appearances in the UK, including London’s Apollo Theatre and major music venues in Philadelphia, USA.

Whilst experiencing this solo success, Bashiyra was approached and engaged as a songwriter by the production and song-writing team ‘Gamble and Huff’, the US based producers for the likes of Stephanie Mills.

The ‘Walk Spirit Talk Spirit’ Jump Cut album by The Red Raw Collective in the mid 90’s, featured Bashiyra as a guest vocalist on the jazz endorsed song ‘Mistified’ on which she also composed the vocal melody structure.

During that same period Bashiyra released ‘Give Me A Little More Time’ on the Japanese DEN album for LIFE records, as well as ‘Got To Get Your Love’ on the album ‘A Sprinkle Of Confetti’, which was written by Bashiyra and recorded live at London’s Jazz Café.

Bashiyra, Thought You Knew

The late ‘90’s saw the release of the single ‘This Will Be My Night’ co-produced and written by Bashiyra, which resulted in positive chart success in Belgium, numerous personal appearances and radio and magazine interviews. The song is currently available on European compilation CD’s and digital download.

In 2001, Bashiyra was interviewed and featured in ‘The Pulse’ section of the South London Press newspaper for her achievement in Singing, Music and Songwriting.

Bashiyra is also a vocal coach and has facilitated song-writing and composition workshops in schools, for private clients and organisations such as The Rock School, The Midi Music Company and The Albany Theatre in London, England.

Her involvement with the Westminster Education Action Zone projects in 2003 and 2005 generated successful and positive outcomes. In this project Bashiyra worked with young people aged 818 and she also delivered programmes to children with special needs.

Later on in 2003, Bashiyra co-founded the creative arts organisation ‘ITA’, which was set up to encourage people of different cultures to learn about each other through music, song and spoken word.

That same year saw another single release and chart success in Europe with the single ‘Island In The Rain’, followed by the release of ‘U Know I Love It’, on the album ‘Wowie Zowie’ by SuperChumbo aka KISS FM DJ Tom Stephan in 2005.

Later that same year, came recognition for her substantial contribution to music at ‘The Festival of Black Female Voices’, Hackney Empire, where she won the award for ‘Aspiring Black Female Singer’. Two years later ‘The Game’, was released and charted at No#1 in The Mix Bags Review and Charts which was co-written by Bashiyra on The Jalapeno label produced by one of Belgium’s hottest DJ’s ’Kid Crème’.

Summer 2009 saw the unexpected death of musical genius Michael Jackson. In the weeks that followed Bashiyra was approached to headline in the very first tribute concert to celebrate the life and works of the ‘King of Pop’ at The O2, Greenwich, London, England.

One year on, Bashiyra’s catalogue and work ethic is recognised by the legendary Herb Middleton responsible for production for the likes of Teddy Pendergrass, Faith Evans, Nas, Phyllis Hyman and Mary J Blige, who signs her to his USA based NuVybe Record label.

Production has commenced on a number of projects including Bashiyra’s eagerly awaited second album project, which sees her writing with Richard Rudolph, the husband of the late great Minnie Ripperton. Both Mr Middleton and Bashiyra vow to make chart breaking hits or 2011 and beyond.

The current self-released debut album ‘Thought You Knew’, is an eclectic blend of Neo-Soul, Jazz Funk and a twist of Dance, and will show Bashiyra’s natural and gifted ability to adapt to a change of style with effortless poise and diction.

September 2010 saw Bashiyra become the UK support for US Erik Rico,  in London

November 2010 saw Bashiyra’s double transatlantic releases, ‘Don’t Get In My Face’ from the UK which charted Top 20 in The Music Week

February 2011 saw Bashiyra appear in Denmark at The Copenhagen Jazz House as a guest of Saxophonist Bobby Ricketts, where she enthralled and captivated her audience with renditions from her current album release ‘Thought You Knew’ as well as new single releases, including ‘It’s Working Out’.

The Copenhagen Post newspaper placed the following review: “Ricketts is an American born Berkley educated Saxophonist based in Copenhagen. During his 25 year career he has established himself not just as one of Denmark’s most famed saxophonists but has also proven himself on the global stage, with his tours extending as far as Japan and the US.

In a rare on-stage performance, Ricketts will be featuring alongside the UK’s Neo-Soul vocalist, Bashiyra – an accomplished Singer who has become one of Soul’s most captivating interpreters with an abundance of awards to her name.

On April 15th 2011 Bashiyra positively impacted a new audience base as well as delighted her avid fans with an acoustic set backed by an all-female band and vocalists at her recent performances at two sold out shows at London’s Jazz Café where she supported US artist Conya Doss.
