Teisha Marie

Eclectic. Intriguing. Delicious.

These are just some of the many adjectives that describe the sound of Teisha Marie. So, what about her style? It’s inviting. It’s Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin meets Nancy Wilson and Debussy.

This England-born/Maryland-raised singer-songwriter, is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, and poet. She’s also one who’s not afraid to take risks. After graduating from Spelman College (where she studied Music History and Theory) in Atlanta, Georgia, Teisha Marie then headed to Philadelphia.

Tastemakers Soul at Vibz Uptown n Hartford

“At that particular time, Philadelphia was experiencing a rebirth of the ‘Philly sound‘, and it was great to be fully immersed in it. I got a chance to meet the greats, like Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, Bunny Sigler, and many others,” she says.

Performing all around the east coast in DC, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and New York has proved to be both enlightening and exhilarating. Teisha reflects: “Performing for me is a way to connect with people and create an intimate experience. Music is a passion for me and I love to share my excitement every chance I get.”

Teisha Marie – LIVE – The Sugar Bar – NYC

Fast-forward to the present: Her debut album, Addicted to Life – The LP, conveys sounds of hope, love and appreciation of life’s complexities. Songs like “More Important” and “Inner Truth” touch on the value of self-reflection and sincerity.

While “Addicted to Life” encourages listeners to listen to follow their own path. Where does her songwriting inspiration come from?  “One word: life.

Life isn’t one-dimensional, so why should music be that way? Music is definitely a universal language, and I want people to listen, and understand exactly what it is I’m trying to say.” With one listen, it’s affirmed that Teisha Marie definitely has a “message in the music.”

Gina Carey

Unique and soulful is the only words to describe soul singer Gina Carey.

Although many have compared Gina Carey to Broadway’s sensation and recording artist Stephanie Mills, she has her own sound and style that can easily be identified in all of her recordings.

Throughout Gina’s musical career, she has written and recorded 3 independently released gospel CD’s (In His Time, Changes & Tell Um) and 2 soulful albums, “My Journey” and her latest “Melodic“.

Gina began her professional recording career in 1996 with her first release “In His Time” selling over 10,000 copies nationwide.

In 2006, Gina was nominated by the Black Music Academy Association of America in two categories: “Best Gospel Performer – Female” and “Gospel Rising Star“. She performed at the event, held at the Cashman Theater, before a full house and won the “Las Vegas Black Music Awards 2006 Best Gospel Performer – Female” award. Later that year, she auditioned for NBC’s America’s Got Talent.

Gina Carey A Change

In 2007, She also performed at the first EURWEB awards with Lee Bailey and in that same year, Gina auditioned for the Hit TV show *Showtime at the Apollo* and impressed the judges so much that she was invited twice to be a guest on the show filmed in Harlem, New York.

In 2008 BET J aired her “True Love” music video on the morning Cup show. Her most recent album entitled “Melodic” was the first and only CD that was written, arranged & composed by Gina.

Her multi talented husband and recording artist Urban Soul Guitarist “JOHN CAREY” produced the “Melodic” CD and is also featured on this album as the lead guitarist.

John Carey feat. Gina Carey – Out On The Town

The sensual soulful sound of Gina Carey meets the electrifying/ funky jazz lead guitarist contributions of her husband, urban soul Guitarist John Carey on all 10 songs on Gina’s album. Gina celebrates her fifth release with 10 new songs that put you back in the old school sounds of the early 80’s era.

This CD includes 4 soulful mid tempo love ballads “Loving You“, “Share My Life“, “Don’t ever Let Me Go” and “Unbelievable“, 2 the fun, funky soulful up tempo tracks” Red Hat” and the old school up tempo disco jam “Without you” and 4 inspirational songs “I Care” , Life Is MoreDon’t You Give Up“, and “A Change” a powerful song about the worlds crises and the hope for the future.

After being in hiatus for almost four years, Gina’s husband was the inspiration behind this phenomenal project. “I wasn’t planning on recording anytime soon.

John Carey Feat.Gina Carey – Step Show

I think I was becoming comfortable with just being a wife and singing backgrounds on my husband’s new CD “New Beginnings“, but my husband continued to encourage me to not give up on my passion to sing. So “Melodic” was born through that experience.”

With a new love and a fresh perspective, John & Gina were able to create a masterpiece. Gina was born on October 17 in Chicago, Illinois and spent her formative years growing up in Los Angeles, CA. She now resides in Palm Springs, CA.

“I came up with the name Melodic because people are always telling me that my music is very soothing and smooth so I thought I would name this CD “Melodic” because of the pleasant sounding melodies comprised on this album.

I started singing around 8 years and singing has been my passion every since. My musical influences were Gladys Knight, Denise Williams, Minnie Riperton, Billy Holiday, and Stevie Wonder. I grew up listening to real music. Singers in those days made you feel really something.

Gina Carey Unbelievable

I love the raw vocals and real singing from the soul. That’s the type of music I enjoy writing and performing.” Gina has performed all over the United States and has shared the stage with many well established celebrities and will be touring throughout US this year with her husband John Carey.

Dame Alexander

There is grit that lies underneath the raw vocals of Dame Alexander.

His early musical canvas was painted by bbq’s in Haddington Park in Philadelphia PA and in the living room of his grandmother Catherine Alexander. In both places the musical soul of Philadelphia both old and new, filled the air.

Ever-present though was the inherent violence in the streets of this American metropolis. It is thru the struggle to maintain balance in the asphalt jungle, that Dame Alexander pens his stories.

And what’s the story? Dammien was a very, very bad boy. Not misunderstood, no preconceived prejudice due to color, he was just bad. How did he get that way? Dad left.

Mom worked and the streets worked on him.  Sometimes dad worked on mom, in front of the whole neighborhood. Friends died, lots of them from bullets. Quite a few went to prison because of murder or cocaine, or both.

At the age of 12 he became homeless. Then he became a foster child. This is the abridged version, things got worse. Things did get better eventually. Then Dame gained faith thru people that cared. Sports saved his life, particularly basketball. He pursued his calling to both passions when he enrolled at Mid America Christian University.

Then he became an all-American athlete. Later that year he would befriend a rowdy Canadian point guard at a summer camp in New York. The precocious Newfoundlander would convince him to move north of the border.

He would secure a scholarship at the University of Cape Breton and become team MVP and a second team All-Conference selection. Still as the sunset, the sounds of Philadelphia would haunt him in the sea-misted night of the maritime’s.

Let’s Stay Together

But something else was creeping in as well, the sounds of down home rock and roll in a little seaport town called Halifax. Armed with a Korg Triton and an acoustic guitar Dame would fuse the two genres, and carve a new niche.

In the summer of 2009 DammienDameAlexander would birth a new project, Gentlemen Deluxe. Then for the better part of 2 years he would record two records. One would be a soul tinged indie pop rock album (yet to be titled) and the second is an urban dance/r&b/hip-hop LP aptly titled “Light The Night”.

Light The Night” is scheduled for a FALL 2011 release. This 12-track romp promises to be the surprise album of the year. The lead off single “BANG IT OUT” is the aperitif to the full menu of gourmet dance infused r&b/hip-hop. Peppered with sexy lyrical wordplay and epic choruses, “Light The Night” fits firmly in the international pop urban Omni verse.

Dame Alexander – Paralize

Under his given name, the first solo release “Beautifully” (2007) the primarily self-produced effort that would be licensed to the Toronto based independent label Curve Music to be distributed by Universal Records Canada.

The album featured an acoustic pop rock sound that would earn Dammien a Music Nova Scotia Award for “Urban Recording” He would then create a 30 sec. mini-vid/commercial “V.iolence I.nterrupts B.eauty for E.veryone” for Much Music that is still in rotation on the MUCH VIBE Network after 4 years.

One of the album’s B-sides “Friendship” would also be licensed to the OMNI Network to be played on an episode of the urban drama “Metropia“. He would then set off to prove his raw acoustic soul-tinged sound and tour the east coast & Ontario Canada with appearances at CMW, The ECMA‘s and Music Nova Scotia industry showcases.

Dame Alexander – Resist Babylon

He would also be invited to teach a seminar on urban fusion at the 2007 Atlantic Jazz Festival.  In 2008 Dammien followed his initial success up with “We Are Who We Have Been Waiting For” on Live Village Records (nationwide digital. Itunes, FYE) the independent label that he and Bus Stop Theatre founder Howard Beye created.

That album was signed by Sound Of Pop Inc and serviced to Ole Publishing. The album was made available to US and Canadian Universities. The album would enjoy 7 top 20 placements. In 2008 He would TOUR The UK, ASIA, CANADA and the US in support of the record.

Live Village Records was also instrumental in the development and launching of the careers of Canadian newcomer Marinda Lavut Aka FERAL BLISS and Canadian Starmaker fund winner SHOBHA, who’s debut album placed a single “At Your Feet” at #27 on the Canadian Billboard Charts.

Damien Alexander & The Gentlemen Deluxe

Both artists have gone on to win Toronto Independent Music Awards and national acclaim. Dammien Alexander produced FERAL BLISS’S debut the critically embraced  “WHITE NOISE INTERMISSION”.?Recently Dammien grabbed the helm for yet another singer songwriter by the name of Naomi Psalm hailing from Boise Idaho.

Her project The Blue Cinema has already begun to turn heads. The 6-song EP demonstrates further Dame’s understanding of composition, songwriting and performance. Listen for yourself at: Dammien’s biggest source of pride comes not when he rocks a crowd but when he can support charity fundraising events/projects with his talent.

He has helped raise thousands of dollars thru his participation in events such as, Musicians For Haiti (Proceeds were donated to The Red Cross Canada), The Art Of Fashion (International AIDS Charity Event), Songs for the Homeless (Action to raise funds for the homeless of Halifax Nova Scotia), Tony Griffin Foundation (Cancer Research) to name a few.

Gentlemen Deluxe TV

LIGHT THE NIGHT” is the second project under the GENTLEMEN DELUXE BRAND. “BANG IT OUT” the lead single is unique in that it features but two instruments voice and drums. With its primal thump and Dammien’s gruff delivery, this track is a fail-safe for any DJ to get the club ramped up into a fever pitch. Impact Date FALL 2011

Ronnie Rolon, better known as the emcee Double, is not only a rapper, but first and foremost a Man of God.

Double is no stranger to the industry with achievements under his belt such as a 2012 Holy Hip Hop Honoree, 2009 YGEA Winner for Best Collaboration for “You Go Girl” with St.  Claire, 2005 Stellar Award Nominee and over 40,000 downloads on two mixtapes.

Throughout Double’s music career, his music has been spread to a broad audience by being featured on Holy Hip Hop Vol. 2, Inspiration Jam Vol. 2, which were released under EMI/Sony, as well as being featured on 20+ mixtapes.

Double’s hit single, “Poison“, from his freshman album has been docked as a top 3 single on Holy Hip Hop Radio, and he was also featured in Exodus Magazine.  Not only does Double rap, but he also acts as he was featured in ChristopherPlay” Martin’s, from the rap group Kid and Play, Holy Hip Hop: The Movie.

Double (Spoken Word)

Before there was a “Double”, there was Ronnie Rolon.  A young man from the inner city of Bridgeport, Connecticut.  Growing up in the inner city, Ronnie saw what the streets had to offer.  As Ronnie matured he weighed the pros and cons of the streets, and compared it to the pros and cons of what God offers.

Seeing that there were no cons with siding with God, Ronnie was reborn as Double.  Double later on moved to Atlanta, Ga, where he still resides, and decided to take his gift of music to the masses.  He became a member of Victory World Church, where Pastor Dennis Rouse is the overseer, and began to furthermore read his word and get closer to God.

As Double continued to grow, he became an Urban Missionary with Freestyle, headed by Scott Free, and started to take the gospel where it needed to be heard the most which is the streets, detention centers, and everywhere else God leads.

Double’s music is honest and pure, and with the help of God, it’s being used as an instrument to bring change to not only a dying culture, but a world as we know and see it.

City Takers – Double ft. K Drama

Takeback Records saw this in Double and recently offered and signed a deal with him with worldwide distribution.  Double has the support of his fans globally, Takeback Records, 3HP Records, as well as his newly formed label, Norf Up Music.

As far as the name Double goes, it speaks of the double portion God has given him and comes directly from the scriptures of Ephesians 3:20 which states; Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

In closing, Double is an instrument that God is using in multiple areas to bring glory to himself, and to bring music back to it’s original format which is, God’s Word.

Brenda Nicole Moorer is the sweetest voice to grace a microphone, a distinctly haunting airy voice, a simple breath of fresh air.

A songbird in her own right, her 4 octave vocal range and heartfelt story like lyrics will capture your attention even before her sweet demeanor. Being named after her grandmother, Brenda’s old school, girl next door name, reflects her music and style.

A songwriter, composer, piano player, guitar player, and actress sees all too much for one artist to wrangle. But, Brenda humbly does so as a seemingly meek and mild figure encompassing jazz stylized vocals with a soulful pop, and an indie feel.

Space- Original Song at Apache cafe

She brings the great jazz singers to the modern day pop culture.  Her music is fresh mixing the old and the new.  She can stand up tall right next to Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Alanis Morisette.

Her music is reminiscent of sounds from Amel Larrieux, Fiona Apple, Sade, and John Mayer.  She’s soul, she’s jazz, she’s indie pop, in a loosely structured, melodic flare of brilliance; she’s a unique artist in this generation.

Growing up she listened to singers like Billie Holiday, Ani Difranco, Bjork, Alanis Morsiette, Sade, Donnie Hathaway, Nina Simone, Dave Matthews Band, and Sarah Vaughan.  Her influences cover a wide variety of genre, and the eclectic mix is apparent in her music.

Autumn Leaves -Brenda Nicole Moorer

Some would think this 24 year old is too young to appreciate such a variety of icons; but, she proves differently with songs like “Listen” and “Autumn Leaves” from her upcoming album, Songbird; to be released on her label, Yellow orchid Records, later this year.

Brenda’s depth and variety of music can be attributed to her varied upbringing. Being exposed from a variety of cultures, from the inner city of Milwaukee Wisconsin to the brilliant culture of Copenhagen, Denmark; Brenda has lived in Toronto, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and finally Atlanta Georgia.

Her music runs deep being the granddaughter of the Lead singer Alvis Moorer, from the 60’s hit group, The Esquires. Brenda is emerging to the front line after being in Dave Hollister’s girl group NIA and singing background for dozens of artists including jazz vocalists Julie Dexter.

Closer-Cover of Corinne Bailey Rae by Brenda Nicole Moorer

Don’t think this songbird lacks onstage experience; she has a list of gigs under her belt including opening for Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Mya, and Omarion; as well as singing across stages in America all the way to the Netherlands.

She even craftily did some gigs singing backstage in the green rooms of Anita baker, Patti Labelle, and Yolanda Adams. This young woman is a true artist, sticking truly to what she believes is good music.

Formerly signed with Universal Australia, she ditched the poppy dance tunes to sing what she felt in her heart and soul, the real stories of her life, the best songs unwritten.  Brenda Nicole Moorer says “music has to be done with purpose to matter at all.”

Sings cover “Love Is You” and original Autumn Leaves

She works to create music that listeners can identify with, and not only to make them dance, but to move their hearts and change their minds. She released a single in 2001 with her former London based label MAPP records. The single hit #2 at the young age of 15.

She is a self-taught guitar and piano player, and an extraordinary writer.  She got her writing chops first by co-writing her music with Keisha Miles, hit songwriter for Ciara.

Her first song ever written, Ordinary Guy, was a huge success among the locals of Atlanta, GA. She went on to release the Songbird EP in 2006, which has now evolved to the full album, Songbird.

Sings Ne me Quitte (my tribute to the song) and Listen

The EP sold hundreds of copies and created quite a buzz for the budding indie star. Brenda says, “I really don’t like having to fit into a genre, so I write from whatever it is Im feeling or thinking at the moment; wether it comes out sounding soul or pop is inconsequential.”

In person, Brenda Nicole Moorer seems sweet and shy, but if you catch her on stage you’ll find that it is home to her, with a stage presence that commands attention as she sings beautiful melodies atop a live violin, cello, bass, brilliant keys, and guitar.

She can be seen as the leading lady in several music videos being released this year in the US. Truly unforgettable, this girl belongs on a grand stage with full orchestra backing her.  She was nicknamed Songbird by jazz singer Julie Dexter, and Brenda’s voice definitely fills up the name.

A professional actor, Brenda has a theater and film resume that would surprise you, and her flare for character that shines through on stage and off.  She feels that film acting is the truest form of herself she can be, and wants to continue pursuing film, holding a career in film and music.

You Make Me

Currently, Brenda is preparing for her first album release and continues to follow the music in her heart, striving to release her music independently, until the rest of the world catches her beat; inspiring one soul at a time to feel something…anything…hopefully something…great.

Brenda Nicole Moorer CD Release Preview

To say that this lady is talented is an understatement. Singer, Songwriter, Spoken Word Artist, Producer, Arranger, Vocal Coach, Performance Coach, and Educator.

NeoSouljah has been working in the music/theater/spoken word industry for many years, however was discovered and named by Stellar/Dove award winning gospel music artist Babbie Mason in 2003 at her National Music Conference.

In a mere 9 years, NeoSouljah or “Neo”, has directly worked with, or shared stages with many established and upcoming artists:

HBO Def Poetry Jam/Peabody award winners Tamika Harper [Georgia Me] and “AbyssGraham, to producing, arranging and performing vocals on as well writing a spoken word piece Brian O’Neal’s [KEM] 2007 project entitled “Daisy” (special guest performer/host at CD release party).

Sister Girl (Live) – Soul of A Woman Expo

Her sound check brought the set-up to a standstill, and later KEM desbcribed her performance as “amazing”. She was the first ever Spoken Word Artist on a major platform at National conferences for the National Society of Black Engineers/NSBE [2 yrs Standing Room Only].

National conferences of various sectors of the Christian church [guest speaker], first a guest then Headliner at Philadelphia’s Spotlight on Jazz & Poetry Festival [by popular demand].

Most recently, the Tri-C Jazzfest Inaugural Poetry and Jazz Jam Session [artist/host] which is the largest Jazz festival in Ohio and arguably the Midwest.

Poetic Eulogy (Tribute to Michael Jackson)

Most recently, the Tri-C Jazzfest Inaugural Poetry and Jazz Jam Session [artist/host] which is the largest Jazz festival in Ohio and arguably the Midwest.

Sharing the stage with World renowned trumpeter Sean Jones, her performance was hailed as “incredible” NeoSouljah has a 5 octave range which lends towards the contralto/tenor register.

This complete with a rich, smoky speaking voice has afforded her work doing everything from indie radio voiceovers to demos of music for other songwriters.

To her credit Neo has performed nearly every kind of music: Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz, Neo Soul, Country & Western and Gospel. And now.. finally, her debut CD. While still infant in it’s appearance onto the Indie Neo Soul scene, NSV has already garned praise from DJ’s and industry execs, as well as label and indie artists in the USA, Japan, Sweden, and EUROPE.

Daze ft. Ace Boogie – NeoSouljah.

They have had the chance to experience the rapidfire staccato of her spoken word and tight 6 part harmonies on “EniGMa”, the soulfulness of her collaboration with Ace Boogie on “Daze”, the clean but sensous delivery of ‘COLORS”, and most notably, the true interpretation of straightahead jazz on “Like I Do”

NSV is the brainchild of Michael Lee Loyd [MLee Entertainment], Ace Boogie [Nappy Groove Records], Rob Hardt [The Candy Factory, EUROPE], and NeoSouljah. A rarity in music today, it boasts a majority of LIVE production:

Working with [Michael Loyd, keys/synth/piano; Rob Hardt, keys/synth; Vinnie Mansfield, Lead/Bass, Brandon Austin, Drums; Shenole Latimer, Saxophone] and all BGV are hers – no autotunes or pitchbending.

Like I Do

With topics ranging from God to sex, Neo’s delivery of Spoken Word is crisp with a cadence that is as hypnotic as the accompaniment. The intro cut “EniGMa” is an indicator that this is not your ordinary bongo/flute poetry CD as the razor sharp delivery is back-dropped with 6 part harmonies reminiscent of Manhattan Transfer or Take 6.

Old School

Her penmanship is next level, choosing to edge away from the more ‘street’ style of language and challenge the hearer to embrace a more mature approach, as heard on “COLORS”, a rich , sensual, erotic presentation of ‘the morning after’.

The tenor of the project is most decidedly seated in Jazz, however there are a few surprises in R&B [‘Truth Love”], Rock [Pantys on Da Stage], and Hip-Hop [Daze] “Poetic Eulogy.

NSV has received nods from several DJ’s around the world, with the straight-ahead torch “Like I Do”, traditional jazz “Put Ur Bk N2 It”  and hip-hop infused DAZE (Do You Remember)having now been played in 14 countries. Not bad for an indie debut.. by word of mouth…. By a “poet”.

In writing her bio we found it hard to do a summation… because there is so much left out with regards to her accomplishments, and so much more to put in pertaining to her future endeavors.  So we simply say:  Enjoy.  If this is only Chapter 1? We are in for a fantastic read.

ANDE’ Neo-Soul Artist

Andrea Lawrence, or “ANDE’”, to all who warmly know her, has made it her personal goal to revive the neo-soul music world with her sultry-rich vocals and piercing lyrics.

With no “formal” voice training behind her, this Dallas, Texas native’s raw talent displays vocal control and range uncommon for most vocalists to date.

Her distinct and unique style derives from many musical influences and genres from her roots in Gospel, to Jazz, to R&B to her now current Neo-Soul platform.

Embracing ANDE Ready for Love

Her soul stirring music speaks across generations with smooth, sultry sounds reminiscent of Nancy Wilson synthesized with the poetic styling of Jill Scott.

“I believe true music pierces the heart and as I sing, I want to make sure that I’m able to speak to someone’s soul,” ANDE‘ explains.

She scored her first major singing opportunity in December 2006 where she toured in Italy with a gospel group “The Women of God” under the direction of Knagui Invernizzi.

Embracing ANDE Brown Skin

Coming Soon New EP

Terri Carroll started singing in her grandmother’s “sanctified” church at the age of 3.  At 17, her professional career began with her writing and singing commercial jingles that were aired on Chicago area radio stations. Terri experienced college, the army, marriage and motherhood.

Sometimes there was room for the music and sometimes not.  The break-up of her marriage, however, signaled a need for Terri to go back to what she knew best; singing.  With 3 small children to raise, Terri hit the Atlanta club scene.

Terri Carroll “Take The City” directed by Darryl D Lassiter

She went from fronting one of Atlanta’s premiere jazz bands, to leading her own in just a few short years.  But there was a dark and abiding secret that tugged steadily at the edges of Terri’s dreams to be a great songstress.

She had been introduced to drugs and alcohol years earlier and their affects had rapidly become hard to manage.  One day in 1996, a knock at her door brought a message from the Lord.

It was her old high school friend and beau turned record producer; Terry Garmon.  He wanted to do a gospel project and the rest is history. Terri’s debut project released on CGI records in 1998, earned her two nominations at the 14th Annual Stellar Awards.  Unfortunately the demise of that record label, resulted in Terri finding herself without a deal and no clout.

TERRI CARROLL : Cant Nobody do me like JESUS

She was out of the “loop”.  But the same God that delivered Terri from the demons of chemical dependency, is the same God whose face she sought for answers about what to do next.

In 2005, Terri released an EP entitled “Holding Out 4 God” produced by Paul Persley.  Says Terri, “Holding Out 4 God is so special because it represents, for me, the challenges of working outside of the mainstream gospel industry machine.

As an independent artist with virtually no budget, it was definately a step out on faith.  I had to depend solely on God.”

Terri has starred in several gospel stage plays including “Can A Hoochie Become First Lady?” featuring Keith Sweat; “Listen to the Spirit; and  in April 2007 the critically acclaimed “True Love“. Currently, Terri is is recording her sophomore music cd.

Terri has also spread her creative wings with the filming of her first movie short, “This Is Not Your Destination” which she wrote, produced, cast and had a principle lead role in.  She also was assistant director and the movie wrapped in February 2009.

Currently,Terri has a new single release entitled “Happy” which is available at, iTunes, Amazon and other fine digital outlets.  She is also pursuing a double degree in Business and Media Production with a concentration in film.

“I feel so blessed that God has given me His love and strength; my children and family;and an opportunity to do His work through song.

“Terri’s advice to other aspiring artists?” Whatever God has for you, he has equipped you fully for it.  Continue seeking His face and operating in His Will for your life.

The race is not given to the swift or to the strong, but to the one who endureth until the end.  Never quit!”

Kebomusic Review “Presents The Experience

DJ Johnny “F” – 6Towns Soul & Funk Show Thursday 7-9pm UK Time

Out of the neo soul stronghold of Atlanta and producer Kebomusic aka Derrick Pryce utilizes the immense vocal talent currently on the scene to produce ten varied tracks of contemporary yet inspirational songs for our times.

Steve Wallace takes the lead on the funky “Escalators”; Dawn McClain delivers the valuable message of “Live Give Love “in a deep with a beat style. The beautiful “Mind’s Eye” is next featuring Lenora Jaye on lead vocals.

On “I’m Still HereKenny Wesley sings  a tune perfect for the best dance floors where people feel the soulful side of new music.  Tracy Cruz sings on the album’s most up-tempo moment “All For You

In The Studio – Kebomusic and Lenora Jaye

Lasonya Gunter’s delivery on “Smile” is mid-tempo soulful R&B at its best. Kenny returns  on  the mid tempo “Indescribable” Lenora is back on the two stepping “Dreaming”. Amber Navran delivers another beautiful down-tempo tune in “Let It Go “before the album ends with another fine down-tempo moment featuring the saxophone of Derwin Daniels on the instrumental “Cadillac Dreams”.

In The Studio – Kebomusic and Dawn McClain

Mr. Pryce has used his skill and experience well here, this project delivers it is contemporary and varied enough to appeal to lovers of all types of modern soul and gospel. The songs are strong and the vocalists really talented and I can’t help feeling that some of the individual tracks if given the right remixes could break through on to a range of dance floors with support from the right people .

Kebomusic is Atlanta based music producer\keyboardist Derrick Pryce. Originally from Ottawa, Canada, Derrick has spent the last several years in Atlanta crafting his own personal sound and playing keyboards for different bands and artists.

As a producer, he initially started shopping tracks to different artists for placement on their projects. This deemed somewhat successful, having produced 4 songs for Atlanta-based R+B artist Yen’s sophomore project and collaborating with jazz saxophonist Derwin Daniels for his 2007 CD Journey.

Kebomusic – Escalators feat Steve Wallace

The next logical step was to release his own material under the banner of his music production company – Kebomusic.

Inspired from influences such as jazz, R+B, hip hop and gospel, his forthcoming album slated for a 2011 release is entitled Kebomusic Presents: The Experience.

In anticipation to this upcoming album and to satisfy the listener’s need for good music right now, Kebomusic Presents: The Soul Prototype is now available exclusively as a digital release.

This EP is a precursor to the upcoming album and contains an array of top-notch vocalists singing over tightly-produced grooves that will definitely make your head nod.

This is a must have for any music fan!

Tracy Cruz

Tracy Cruz’s music represents a vast, magnificent blend of polarities.

Her music hinges on heartless dissonance and jolting hope. We never get just one side of her; we get the kaleidoscope.

Her song lyrics and production will unfailingly take you on a musical excursion, intended to resonate with all who experience it.

As surely as it will crush your soul, it will also elate you. A vocal powerhouse, one that can speak a universal language, can only back up this aural diversity.

Tracy’s alluring voice is comprised of sounds old and new, resembling Jill Scott’s throaty moans and Sarah Vaughan’s lyrical accentuation, all while still managing to remain distinct.

Tracy Cruz – Video Bio

Born in Quezon City on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, Tracy grew up in an encouraging household where she watched with eyes of wonder as her mother and grandmother serenaded around the house.

As a little girl, she recounts, “They looked so happy and full of life. The joy was contagious, so it was a natural calling for me to join in and sing.”

In admiration, her grandfathers observed her budding talent and encouraged her to pursue further by offering her money to sing.

Tracy’s parents later enrolled her in piano, singing, and saxophone lessons. Her first vocal coach was Greg Farbizio of Darrell Leffler’s Academy of Music. With the incredible boost from her family and coach Greg Farbizio, Tracy traveled across the United States by the age of twelve, competing in competitions and bringing home trophies.

SOR Live Performance Early Dayz – Tracy Cruz

With a vocal range that stretched from unbelievable lows to soprano highs, a refined tonal quality and a few scribbles in her notebook emerged. Without forgetting her indigenous roots, the singer developed musical mannerisms that were influenced by Filipino songwriting styles.

The fearless admittance to thriving passion in Filipino ballads was something Tracy wanted to revitalize in her lyrics. That Tracy was influenced by her vocal coach – Ledisi – is obvious too.  Oftentimes, she approached her voice as a melodic vehicle that interpreted the Word of God.

With unfettered freedom and full self- expression, she discovered memorable ways of coloring church songs with rich meaning. Audiences often fell to their knees in response.

Tracy humbly responds, “It’s not me who is singing; it is God moving through me.” With the guidance of Ledisi’s unapologetic, freewheeling style, Tracy Cruz soon gained the confidence to “step out” and touch a wider audience.

Tracy Cruz sings Jill Scott’s “The Way” LIVE BAND!

As seminal traces of lyrical contemplation emerged in her book, Tracy met pianist Allen Ross in the gospel choir at San Jose State University. She notes, “I won his heart by reading him poetry from my book after practice, far after everyone left the building.”

Who would have known that the one they call “The Man with Perfect Pitch” and the “Little Woman with the Big Voice” would evolve and soon conceive of two children along with three musical creations.

The evolution of Tracy Cruz’s music is a testament of the highs and lows of her life.  With warm welcoming, Tracy simply “lets us in.” Each album, each song, offers a glimpse into the different chapters in her life. In 2005, her EP entitled, Illuminate Love, featured Kanetic Source, former emcee of Ozomatli, and accumulated national recognition.

Tracy’s debut album, Feel’osophy (2008), was awarded three Muse’s Muse Awards for “Best R&B CD Project of 2008”, “Best Lyrics Female”, and “Best R&B Single Female.” Acclaim from Feel’osophy boosted Tracy’s profile in the industry.

Tracy Cruz – Struggle Reprise

She was able to share the stage with Apl. de Ap of the Black Eyed Peas, Martin Luther, Jaguar Wright, Latoya London, Zion I, Pep Love, Living Legends, Breakestra, The Bangerz, and Crown City Rockers.

“Music is so powerful to me. You can really touch someone’s life by the songs you create,” she says.

Touching individuals from different corners of the world became apparent when she received a letter from Sacramento, California.

As a result of hearing Struggle, a track off Illuminate Love, the writer expressed, “Your song moved me to tears. Your powerful song helped me let go of this pain I’ve been hanging on to for so long.” As we travel outside the U.S.

“The vocals are brilliant! We are probably talking about the best Soul album this year so far! One of the best debut albums I have ever heard!”

Neo-Soul (Tracy Cruz – Emotional Love) – Planet Chill

from Fitzroy Da Buzzboy of The Soul Survivors Magazine (United Kingdom)

“Every now and again America finds a diamond in the ruff, shining no brighter currently than Tracy Cruz, whose album “Feel’osophy” is undeniably a classic piece of musical magic.”

Tracy and producer Allen Ross decided to stretch and re-conceptualize their sound while remaining true to Tracy’s core artistry.

In her upcoming album, Universoul Symphony, the duo flirt with indigenous, symphonic, and electronic sounds. Upon listening to Universoul Symphony, Tracy’s recalibrated confidence is wildly apparent.

Tracy Cruz – Creating Universoul Symphony

The album unveils the struggles of being an independent artist, the joys of being loved, the hardships of today’s economy, and surviving in a world riddled with injustice.

Yet, Tracy envelops all of it and re-fashions it in a beautiful light. Anyone would notice the subterranean depth that Tracy dared to dive into for Universoul Symphony.

The production is lush with extravagant layers and unexpected instrumental choices. Best of all, the hypnotic backstage works perfectly with Tracy’s upstage lyricism. This is not the Tracy we knew from the past. Yes, she’s bigger, badder, and wiser.

But best of all, the mad scientist has explored her mystical experimentations and she’s not afraid to show her work.Conceptually, Universoul Symphony is a work of art that is undeniably truthful.

It seems the balance of motherhood, marriage, and songwriting has birthed a wonderland of love, courage, joy, pain and struggle.

It is a tear-jerking, fist-pumping, two-stepping collage, a record you can play in the bedroom or at your summertime, backyard boogie.

Lisa Deveaux

Lisa Deveaux singer/songwriter & producer

In possession of a soulful soprano kissed with jazzy overtones and a way with her pen that brings clarity to the workings of a woman’s heart, Lisa Deveaux caresses listeners with beautiful songs of love and a singular sound that hypnotizes.

For her second album, “Language of Love”, singer / songwriter Deveaux plumbs the depths of her heart to share personal statements about relationships – from the sweetest of intimacies to the most heartbreaking of separations.

Get To Know The Real Deveaux

Having gone through a bad relationship, she came out on the other side with a strong desire to tell her “real life truth” about love.

With the sincere vulnerability of a woman and the fearless expression of an artist, Lisa dives heart first into the secrets that a woman often holds back for fear of revealing too much of her soul.

Each song on Language of Love – seven co-penned by Lisa – speaks to a core emotion one feels within relationships. “Language of Love is a look into my journal,” the lady shares.

“It’s about being open, honest and willing to be hurt. Love is beautiful yet unpredictable – fragile and frustrating – and sometimes tragic.

No matter how hard some of my experiences have been, I have always survived by maintaining an optimistic perspective.”

Language of love

Key to Language of Love rockin’ you with a sound like no other was Lisa finding producer Tigran Saakian, a classically trained pianist, film composer and producer.

He specializes in music for films yet has a unique and vibrant pop music pulse, as evidenced on his work with Israel’s international singing superstars,  Googoosh.

“Tigran totally ‘got’ my musical vision of passion-filled melodies with rich production value,” she states.

Language of Love opens with the soul steppin bump of “Get Up On It,” a club anthem for every woman who’s ever fallen for one of those shy guys that didn’t know how to close the deal.

Lisa Deveaux: Language of Love

It’s the inner thoughts of a woman wanting to stay in her lane yet aching for him to merge with her. Here Lisa is comin’ with the kind of funk that’ll make a guy’s temperature rise and a girl wanna kick off her heels and party! The “old soul” in Lisa shines through in her other two up-tempos, rhythm driven covers of classics from 1977.

The first is “You Belong to Me” written by Michael McDonald (while still in the Doobie Brothers) and Carly Simon. Both recorded their own versions yet Lisa makes it her sensuous own with a groove fans of the originals will not believe.

The second is Rose Royce’s “Ooh Boy” which Lisa takes techno-pop, pulling you into a party world by finessing the legendary Norman Whitfield’s wistful lyrics in a way that’ll have folks fantasizing about that special someone across the dance floor.

The remainder of Language of Love is a gorgeous collection of originals. The cinematic sweep of Saakian’s production on “Finally”dreamily mirrors the way a man once swept Lisa off her feet.

Here the songwriter in Lisa emerges with a poignant look at the desire for love and the anxiety of wondering when it will appear. It’s a song for ladies and men alike – all waiting to “finally” fall in love.

The first single/video “Language of Love” came from a passionate love letter written to an ex but never mailed. It’s a snapshot of new love in its purest state – fresh, sexy, tender moments.

The scenario is somewhere between a fireplace and a rainy afternoon in a world where two bodies engage in the carnal conversation of ardor. Accordingly, Lisa’s layered harmonies mesh with the soprano sax of special guest Marion Meadows.

I just felt it necessary to delve into some other things with this record and create a connection with people. Language of Love is all me, sexy, vulnerable, open…and real.”

Could You Be the One” (produced and arranged by Donald Tavie) asks the question all lovers are trying to figure out. Lisa answers it  brilliantly in a song swirling in spiritual quandaries of romance, karma, and love-luck, all set to a soul-stepping groove.

Lisa Deveaux-Could You Be The One

Angel” is a bittersweet and heart-tugging piece that is a gateway of compassion and comfort for anyone who’s ever loved someone that passed away… At the other end of life’s spectrum is the hidden bonus track “Birthday Wish” which Lisa hopes will be embraced as a fresh yet timeless traditional number to celebrate the blessing of another year.

The remaining two songs showcase where Lisa Deveaux is coming from as a vocalist. The rapturous “This Time” (featuring pianist Terry Burrus) reveals Lisa’s early roots in the realm of Barbra Streisand.

In contrast, “Beautiful” (produced and arranged by Lou Hardin and Andre Taylor) – on which she luxuriates in the aura of a soul mate whose beauty is for her eyes only – finds Lisa reveling in another vocal influence: the sophisticated soul of Earth Wind & Fire.

Lisa Deveaux Live w/ ‘Beautiful’

Beautiful also aptly describes the bright light and boundless energy that is Deveaux. A bedazzling eyeful of Creole, Czech and Native American Indian heritage, the Chicago native was born to a showbiz father.

She hung out with daddy backstage but soon found her way on stage at the age of 11, performing with a repertory group and the Mayfair Academy. She further honed her artistic crafts at Florida A&M University and the prestigious Herbert Burghoff Studios in New York.

Shakin’ That Jazz

Lisa then moved to Los Angeles singing background with now-departed legends Barry White and Phyllis Hyman before recording her own 2004 debut Shakin’ That Jazz which featured the hits “Second Nature,” “Lazy Monday Afternoon” and “By Design,” a duet with the peerless Carl Anderson that was among his last recordings.

SRO shows across America and throughout Europe endeared her to the international pop and smooth jazz worlds – from Rush Street in Chicago and the Blue Note in New York to cafés in Brussels and a jazz cruise in the Caribbean.

Language of Love

Now gifted songstress, producer and self-proclaimed “Island Girl” Lisa Deveaux returns with her Heaven-sent missive, Language of Love. It’s a musical mind excursion that’s riveting from start to finish and a sweet indulgence for lovers of all ages.

“I took time off to soul search on how best to translate my feelings about our quest for romance,” she concludes. “I’m not oblivious to the realities of what’s going on in the world.

I just felt it necessary to delve into some other things with this record and create a connection with people. Language of Love is all me, sexy, vulnerable, open…and real.”!/lisadeveaux

CARMEN RODGERS: Up Close and Personal

Carmen Rodgers has made her mark over the past several years as one of the bright stars of the independent soul movement, both as a singer and as a sought-after songwriter. The Mississippi-born Rodgers began performing as a child, and by her teen years she was regularly singing in choirs around Dallas.

She attended Kansas State University to study both engineering and music, but moved to music full time upon her return to Dallas.

She landed a gig as a backing vocalist for hot soul singer N’dambi while also writing songs for other artists like Geno Young.

Rodgers also became the host of an open mike program at the popular Sankofa Kafe in Dallas and developed her own following as a live performer.

“The Way I Want To Touch You” @Vinyl Atlanta, Ga

Her recording career soon began with individual track inclusions on compilations, most notably Hidden Beach Records‘ “Hidden Hits.”  In 2004 Rodgers independently released her debut CD, Free,

It’s  a mellow, lyrically strong disc that deservedly became an underground soul hit, staying in the CD Baby top 10 for months and resulting in a European distribution contract with Expansion Records.

It’s Me… Live in Concert @ The Prophet Bar

The next year she landed a track on the popular soundtrack to the basketball documentary 25 Strong. Rodgers fans had to be patient, because her sophomore album took a long time to come to fruition.

But her ambitious examination of a love relationship, tentatively titled Intermission, began to take form in 2009 and the first portion of the disc, the EP The Bitter Suite, was released digitally in Spring, 2010.

Jef Kearns

Jef Kearns, soul flautist,

He is transforming the reputation of the instrument from band geek to urban chic through his signature flute sounds and urban sense of style. Music listeners and industry alike are taking note.

Tom Coyne (mastering engineer for Michael Jackson, Ne-Yo, Sade, Beyoncé, and countless others) says, “His compositions and beats are both really strong.

Beautiful flute performance on really good quality pop music. Not only the Smooth Jazz listeners, but also R&B music fans would enjoy his songs.”

Jef Kearns ft Hilltop Productions – FREESTYLE HIP HOP FLUTE

Executive producer/programmer at CKLN, Carl Allen remarked to the flautist, “Jef, you have taken flute to a whole new level.

You have made me a fan (of the flute), and that’s not easy do. In my 35 years in the biz I have heard a lot of players. You are the best, my friend.”

Jef Kearns grew up listening to the urban music radio stations broadcast out of Detroit and credits his selected career path to them.

Even at the age of 10, Jef would learn R&B melodies and transpose hip hop lines and verse into the rhythms of his flute.

Harlem, Spoken Word, Poetry, Intense feat. Al St. Louis.

“I’d spend hours in my room playing along with hip hop station 96.3FM,” Jef reveals, “and when I wasn’t playing I was listening intensely to what exactly was happening, musically.”

The Jef Kearns fan base is as diverse as the emotion attached to his every note. Fans range from a teenage online listener who described his flute playing as “da bomb” to a veteran boxer who, after seeing Jef perform, stated he was inspired to play the flute himself.

Lavender — Soulful Urban Jazz by Jef Kearns

Music producer Damon De Szegheo recounts hearing a group of death-metal rockers say of Jef, “This guy shreds better on flute than I can on guitar” as they overheard the flautist recording.Jef Kearns’ crossover appeal has been proven in the media as well.

He is the only instrumentalist listed on (a site ranked 20 out of 198 million “soul” searches on Google), alongside recognized and award-winning vocalists and musicians, including Jill Scott, Joe, Common, and Mint Condition.

Lollipop – L’il Wayne – Kanye West – Jef Kearns Soul Flute Cover

He has also made numerous appearances on the Jazz Review and The Live Music Report Web sites.

Consisting of all original tracks, Jef’s debut album On the Level unleashes a quiet storm of flute-focused R&B grooves that cross genres from modern soul to hip-hop to classic Motown.

Of the album Jef says, “It is my mission to show people that flute that can be just as soulful and down-and-dirty as sax.

Return of the Mack – Live remix. Flute and DJ.

“I first had the pleasure of hearing this choice flautist at Trane Studio. Jef seems content in whatever vein he decides to play in, R&B, Latin jazz, or accompanying the spoken word. Look for him around town, you won’t be disappointed.”

BBC Introducing Jef Kearns

Jef Kearns with Chris Rouse – On the Level

“Jef Kearns’ debut album ‘On The Level’ is dispelling the myth that flute players can’t do urban jazz… it’s a hip, up to the minute, collection that oozes class… every one of the nine choice tunes offer ample opportunity for Kearns to display his considerable virtuosity, each shimmers with its own unique vibe.”

Smooth Jazz

On the Level is available through,, iTunes, and Amazon.

“When I hear the flute, I think of meadows, flowers, ponds and trees … That perhaps explains why I still find the use of the flute in R&B and jazz to be so shocking. However, as Jef Kearns shows on his album On The Level, this juxtaposition can be shockingly effective. On the Level is a recording that has its feet planted firmly in the woods and the hood. Recommended.”

Trish Standley

She is a voice of hope in a hurting generation.

With God-given vocal talent and a passion for those in need of healing and redemption, she has been called as a minstrel for today’s body of  believers.  Through her anointed music ministry, she has uplifted the downtrodden and encouraged the broken-hearted.

The 2011 Excellence in Christian Music Award Recipient is not only a gifted vocalist, but a brilliant songwriter as well, exhibited on her sophomore release entitled Redemption.

A superb collection of Christian music, Redemption isn’t just the title of Trish’s new project, but it’s a reminder.  She wants every person to know that there’s nothing beyond the reach of God’s Redemption.

Introducing Trish

More About Trish

A native of Kokomo, Indiana, Trish is the youngest of four girls.  Raised by a single mother, she grew up in a family of singers in what she affectionately calls “a house of praisers”.  At the age of ten, the music bug bit her and she began singing at her home church, Grace Memorial Church of God In Christ.

After her salvation experience, she joined the church choir and ultimately co-founded a teenage gospel group called the Sweet Sounds of God at the age of 15.  The four young ladies traveled throughout the state of Indiana singing the songs of Zion.

The foursome gained popularity and were quite well known for their soul stirring singing.  Receiving invitation after invitation, they competed in competitions throughout the state.

You’re Worthy

In addition to singing, she always had a longing to pen songs.  A decision to take her mother’s poetry and put melody to it was the beginning of her songwriting career.  She also discovered she had a knack for arranging songs.  Through years of voice lessons paired with her continued spiritual growth, Trish got her voice back and obtained an array of vocal-enhancing skills that literally took her singing to another level.

Later, she formed the very first children’s choir at Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia in 2000, where she faithfully served for 11 years.

She was the Lead Director for the Voices of Praise Choir as well as one of the Pastor’s select soloists. While there, she was inspired to work with a group of young girls, encouraging them to use their voices for the Lord. The group, Sisters of Praise, soon became a blessed expectation among the parishioners due to their uplifting performances.

In 2004, she formed the gospel ensemble, AHAVA, which consisted of nine members who worshipped at various churches throughout the Atlanta area. Many of the singers had no prior experience singing in public. She welcomed the opportunity to guide and develop these individuals into their ministry gifts.

Jokes on You

Always comfortable with singing as an ensemble or a member of a choir, she was quite apprehensive when she felt the call to step out as a soloist.  “It was very scary,” Trish recalls.  “For me, there was a safety net singing with a group or a choir, but God helped me through it. He sent two mentors my way and He helped me to face that fear.”

In 2008, she stepped into he studio and began to record the songs that the Lord had given her.  One year later, she released her first album entitled introducing…Trish.

On the debut record, she poured out her heart, sharing some of her most intimate thoughts and feelings.  Not only was the experience cathartic for the artist, but it allowed her to hone her writing skills as she embraced her new title as “recording artist”.

Live at the 2012 Yes Lord Radio Anniversary Party

Now, Trish has returned and released her sophomore project titled, Redemption. The project picks up where Introducing Trish left off. It continues with the message of hope, but steps it up a notch and focuses on those in need of true LOVE.

Each track has that dominant theme, reminding listeners that God’s acceptance and desire is that “ALL” men come to know of His saving grace.  It’s a message that Trish is passionate about.

She says, “The Church has been responsible for turning many away from the Body of Christ; however, Christ is about judging the sin and not the person. It is ONLY by God’s grace that we are not in the same condition of those we tend to judge.”

Redemption promises to encourage the hurting and ignite the passion of the spiritually starved.  Simultaneously, the musical collection takes the listener on a melodic ride during tracks such as “Love”, produced by Claudius Craig of 1 Man Band Studios, a song which as climbed the UK Soul Charts, and “Cheer up”, produced by CarltonC-DubWhitfield of C-Dub Productions.

Cheer Up on Babbie’s House

But it’s not just upbeat songs that Trish includes on this new release.  She also takes us into the Throne Room on intimate worship tracks like “I Don’t Know”, penned by Yvonne Perkins and “Here I Am”, written by Greg and Linda Smith of Full Circle Music.

Through each song on Redemption, Trish’s calling is clear.  She knows her charge is to speak to and for those who have lost their way and in need of compassion, understanding and patience, reminding them of Christ. Her prayer has always been, “Lord, help me to see your people through your eyes and not my own so I can properly minister to their hearts.”

In a time where the focus is on “preaching to the choir” Trish has been assigned with seeking the heart of God and drawing men unto Him through the same spirit that Christ demonstrated in the Word leaving no one unworthy.  She’s clear that all need Redemption.

Updates in 2011/12

In late 2011 the song  “Love”  caught fire on the radio and dancefloor in the United Kingdom. it hit #5 on the UK Soul Charts. The song’s popularity influenced the singer to record a remix of “Love” with Neil Tomo of Thompson & Thompson. On back of that success Trish return the favour on Thompson & Thompson new track “Higher & Higher” (You can buy both tracks below)
